Sales and marketing jobs in the UK
In most medium sized or large organisations, sales and marketing jobs are split into two distinct departments, sales and marketing.
Jobs in the sales department can include;
- Telesales - this may involve a high proportion of cold calling, or preferably chasing up leads generated from the website or enquiries.
- Field sales - the representatives is out of the office for significant periods of time visiting clients either to take orders or in the hope of securing new business.
- Key account management – This is where the few largest clients may have a dedicated individual with whom they build a relationship.
Marketing jobs tend to be based in smaller departments and generally are more creative types of roles, concentrating on;
- Brochure design,
- E-marketing campaigns
- The website
- PR and media exposure.
Sales and marketing jobs can be seen as quite separate careers. However, in smaller companies, without the resources available to other organisations, sales and marketing jobs may well come under one banner with a department responsible for aspects of both sales and marketing. Jobs in departments like these are often more interesting with a wider scope and the opportunity for a sales and marketing professional to have a broader impact on a number of different aspects of the role. Down whichever route your sales and marketing job takes you, it is sure to be a rewarding and fulfilling career, offering both creative input and the opportunity to contribute to the continued success of your employer.
