Operations director jobs
Operations director jobs can invariably be the catch all position within a business, looking after all the areas that do not fall within the remit of any other member of the senior management team. Operations director jobs are often given other titles, such as Chief Operating Officer, Head of Operations, Head of Delivery etc, but the basic make up of all operations director jobs is broadly similar.
An operations director job will vary depending on the specific sector for example;
The operations director would normally cover all aspects of production, manufacturing, planning, logistics, stores and goods in and purchasing, but may also have responsibility for such areas as customer service or even sales.
Within a service environment
The delineations are much more distinct – The operations director encompasses anything that impacts on the customer or end user. These areas would therefore more likely be despatch, order taking, customer service and even accounts.
Are you a good all rounder?
Regardless of which sector you would find such a range of operations director jobs the broad fact of the matter is that you have to be a good all rounder, but preferably without a bias towards one aspect of your remit than any other.
An operations director with a bias towards manufacturing may lose sight of the fact that on time delivery and customer satisfaction are equally important, whereas an operations director in a very sales driven environment may lose the ability to distinguish between any old sale and a profitable one. Those who thrive in operations director jobs are often on the fast track to managing director or chief executive.
