There are many reasons why people look for new jobs, career search and progression can be one of them. But what is the best way to go about developing your career and which way of doing it will ensure that you end up with the role you want in the company you want?
When deciding which direction to take to progress your career and which are the most appropriate jobs, career search counsellors are one way of assessing your skills and requirements. They are an expensive option if you are funding it yourself and probably a better option only if you get the opportunity of negotiating it in a redundancy package or compromise agreement.
Your search could also lead you in the direction of what used to be called the job centre but they do a very difficult job with limited resources and may only have the time to devote to searching for specific jobs, career search may not take priority.
In all fairness, you yourself probably already know what you want to do, and unless your career development involves retraining or going back to college, your best bet is to make sure that your CV is up to date, accurate and presentable and that you approach the best recruitment consultants. If you do not have an existing relationship with a recruitment consultant, your journey will undoubtedly start with either the recruitment consultancy’s own website or one of the many job boards. Here to it is important that your applications are specific – your job search is unlikely to get off to a flying start if you only randomly send your CV on spec.
