Apparently, this is the truth, as printed in the Manchester Evening News. Perhaps if these CEOs used high quality, experienced recruitment consultants, they wouldn’t be faced with this problem?

Today’s blog highlights one of the most impressive candidates with who we have worked. An accomplished board level business leader with significant multi-channel sales and marketing management experience, he possesses a flawless record in motivating his teams to overachieve targets, and can demonstrate a highly successful growth record with clients in both commercial and public sectors.
His sales and business development experience has included developing highly lucrative customer relationships including NHS Trusts, Local Authorities, Police and Central Government, doubling sales income and increasing margin by 300% and increasing repeat business and retention of contracts, with a 90+% pitch success rate.
Another in our occasional features highlighting the proactive marketing work that we are carrying out. Today’s featured candidate is someone who has used our services to recruit at the last two companies at which he was Managing Director, stretching back nearly ten years.
He is MBA qualified from Cranfield, with a first class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and a MPhil from Cambridge University; he is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. After a 30 year career of unparalleled success, he has taken early retirement and is now seeking to offer his experience in a non-executive capacity as an addition to his non-commercial interests.
On 30th April, Gregory Mertens died; he was 24. On 3rd May Danny Jones died; he was 29. Five years ago Andy Parker died; he was in his early 30s.
You might have heard of the first two; they were professional sportsmen whose deaths made headline news. You won’t have heard of Andy. However, what links all three of these men is that they all died of undetected heart conditions. The first two even went through rigorous and regular health screening (Danny Jones had an ECG as recently as 2014) and yet they were struck down by a condition that is responsible for over 40,000 premature deaths every year in the UK alone.
Job of the Week?? Or Job of the Year??
My client is one of the outstanding success stories of recent years, growing strongly thanks to a combination of competitive pricing and outstanding customer service. As part of their plans to ensure continued growth, they are now seeking to appoint an experienced, dynamic graduate or MBA to a new role specifically managing the burgeoning field engineering team. This is a full on role, as, at least initially, you will be directly responsible for a team of over 50 UK wide, home based engineers, supported by a team of work schedulers and a training manager at Head Office. In addition to ensuring that your engineers are providing the highest quality service in the most economic and efficient manner, you will be involved in the strategic direction of the business, not least in terms of planning the expansion of the team, integrating any TUPE’d staff and improving both workflows and efficiencies on the ground. You will have had recent experience of managing sizeable teams in a field based engineering environment, preferably in a business that has undergone expansion, and be comfortable handling statistical and financial data that will provide important feedback on measurable metrics and KPIs. You will also be able to demonstrate the development of strategy for your team, either in terms of territory or service realignment, or in delivering demonstrable improvements in key KPIs, and possess excellent communication skills, both on the ground, with customers, and at board level. This is a very rare opportunity for someone with a proven field service track record to have a significant influence on the future direction of this business.
Job of the Week!
My client is a well respected, long established manufacturing SME servicing a unique and highly regulated market. As part of their current growth plans, and with a view to expanding the services that they can offer their client base, they are looking to recruit a dynamic and ambitious Quality Systems Manager with experience of designing and implementing several business critical quality accreditations including ISO 17025, ISO Guide 34 and ISO 17043. Your duties will include maintenance of the existing quality system, conducting internal quality audits and managing external assessment audits, in addition to liaising with other parts of the business, external laboratories and external assessment bodies. This is a very autonomous role; you will be given complete responsibility for keeping the business at the forefront of the regulatory environment, monitoring and analysing regulations, guidelines and standards, and ensuring your own CPD through further training, education and knowledge gathering. The business would, in turn, expect you to design, organise and promote a quality culture, developing and disseminating standards, metrics and standard operating procedure (SOP) management. This is a vital role within the company, maintaining their competitive edge through the maintenance of the highest possible quality standards.
A new feature for our blogs is to emphasise the proactive work that we do on candidates’ behalf. Today’s featured candidate is actually someone I have known personally for nearly 25 years.
A French speaking graduate CIMA qualified accountant, he has a proven track record as a member of the senior management team within the companies for who he has worked, and has spent much of the last 15 fifteen years as the most senior finance person (either as financial controller or finance director) within those companies. He has held these roles in engineering, retail, traditional manufacturing and M&E contracting companies.

Job of the week!
My client is a major manufacturing success story, with a strong order book, exclusively blue chip customer base and a history of investing not only in plant and machinery, but also in their staff. As part of their corporate strategy for the next five years of growth, they have created a new role within the IT function that will concentrate exclusively on MfgPro, leaving the mundane hardware and internal support services to a separate department. They are now seeking to appoint an experienced MfgPro professional to specifically manage all aspects of the MfgPro system, ensuring that its operational capability is optimised and that the systems support the planned growth and customer interface for which it is rightly lauded. To that end, the role would probably best suit an MfgPro specialist currently working in a consultancy or self-employed capacity who is looking to utilise his skills whilst enjoying the same degree of autonomy but benefiting from increased employment security and prospects than you might other wise get. You must be articulate and ambitious, with an ability to grasp the wider business picture rather than just technical issues, the personality and communication skills to understand requirements and transmit ideas across a wide range of technical competencies, and a proven pedigree of working with MfgPro within a world class manufacturing or engineering environment. This is not some of “mushroom” role, stuck in a windowless office with little interaction; this opportunity is a vital part of my client’s intention to make the business as efficient and effective as possible, ensuring maximum external customer satisfaction and securing the long term future of the company.
A welcome return for Job of the Week!
My client is on the cusp of a massive expansion programme. Having cleverly and carefully established a reputation for quality and customer service, they are now about to launch a number of cutting edge products onto the market, all of which are light years ahead of those their competitors can offer. Having spent a significant period of time and money addressing their branding, traditional marketing and web presence, they are now looking to recruit a digital communications specialist to take this message to the marketplace. They are not looking for a website designer, but instead someone with a proven track record of engaging with new and existing customers across the full range of digital media, whether that is social media, web campaigns or via an innovative use of e-mails. We are looking to speak to creative individuals who can demonstrate success in translating senior management’s ideas into proven business generators, and can give plenty of examples of how their creative digital marketing projects have directly influenced the lead generation and sales performance of the business. This experience may have been gained either in-house or on an agency basis, but it is crucial that your efforts have directly influenced the sales pipeline. It is not too strong to suggest that this role is key to the expansion of the business as the directors wish, and in return they will offer complete autonomy, in addition to a planned career path that will quickly involve staff management.
