My client is an old fashioned British manufacturing success story, with a loyal and almost exclusively blue chip client base and a reputation built on high quality products delivered on time to the exact specifications of their customers. The owners are now keen to recruit a commercial director to join the senior management team with the primary remit of taking the business to the next level, ensuring sustainable growth. On the face of it, this would appear a relatively straightforward role, ideal for someone with an engineering background and a strong track record of success. However, the intricacies of the market, the requirement for an excellent relationship developer and the composition of the senior team mean that only the highest calibre applicants are sought. You must have a background in engineered products sold into blue-chip markets, with a sound understanding of manufacturing processes and timescales (to avoid the issue of over-promising and under-delivering), strong budgeting and negotiating skills, the attention to detail to deliver watertight and competitive tender documents and the man-management skills to rein in the over-eagerness of the field based sales team. This is not an opportunity for someone looking to make the step up – this role is for an individual with an unimpeachable track record and the confidence to deliver results in a new environment.
