Confidence returns, slowly

A survey released in September suggests that more than half of North West businesses plan to increase their workforce over the next 12 months.  Fifty-four per cent of companies surveyed said that recruitment plans would go ahead, while 51 per cent are confident their business will grow over the coming year.

A spokesman for the company that carried out the research  said: “This appears to indicate that recruitment and training are beginning to re-emerge as key priorities for UK businesses as they look to the future and plan if, and how, they will take advantage of any emerging opportunities.”

However, despite improving confidence levels, 15 per cent of businesses still expect to see a reduction in business in the next 12 months while one in five will reduce their staffing levels over this period.
